Laura Jeen Reese Witherspoon, de son vrai nom, est une actrice et productrice américaine née le 22 mars 1976 à Baton Rouge, Louisiane (États-Unis).

Elle est le deuxième enfant de John et Betty Witherspoon. Son père était un chirurgien militaire spécialisé dans l'O.R.L. et sa mère une infirmière. Elle passe les 4 premières années de sa vie à Wiesbaden en Allemagne où est posté son père à l'époque. Puis la famille rentre aux États-Unis et s'installe à Nashville (Tennessee).

Dès l'âge de 7 ans, elle commence à poser pour des magazines, puis fait quelques publicités pour des télévisions loca...
