Il est le père de Tori Spelling de son vrai prénom Victoria Davey (Donna Martin dans Beverly Hills 90210) et de Randy Spelling (Sean Richards dans Sunset Beach). Sa première femme fut l'actrice Carolyn Jones. Sa seconde épouse s'appelle Candy. Attiré par le journalisme, aaron spelling intègre la Souhern Methodist University.
