Gwyneth Paltrow est née le 28 septembre 1972 à Los Angeles. Elle est la fille du réalisateur Bruce Paltrow et de l'actrice Blythe Danner.

Le destin de la jeune fille semble tout tracé, elle suivra l'exemple de ses parents. Elle joue en 1990 au théâtre aux côtés de sa mère dans Picnic. Elle abandonne par la suite ses études d'histoire de l'art pour se consacrer à sa passion. Elle fait ses débuts au cinéma en 1991 dans Shout, un film de Jeffrey Hornaday où elle a John Travolta et Heather Graham comme partenaires.

La même année, le cinéaste Steven Spielberg, qui est un ami du père de Gwynet...
