Il naît le 18 février 1954 à Englewood, dans l'état du New Jersey dans une famille d'acteurs, de six enfants (deux frères et trois sœurs). Son père Salvatore est fils d'un immigré Italien Napolitain et sa mère Helen est d'origine Irlandaise. (Frère de Joey Travolta, Ellen Travolta, Ann Travolta et Sam Travolta)
