Vladimir Cosma est né à Bucarest dans une famille de musiciens. Son père, Teodor Cosma est pianiste et chef d’orchestre, sa mère, Carola, musicienne et championne d'Europe et de Roumanie de natation, son oncle, Edgar Cosma, compositeur et chef d’orchestre et une de ses grand-mères, pianiste, élève du célèbre Ferrucio Busoni.
