Frédéric Françis Chopin est né le 1er mars 1810 à Zelazowa Wola, près de Varsovie en Pologne. Il est le fils de Nicolas Chopin, né en 1771 à Marainville dans les Vosges. Celui-ci quitta la France pour aller faire fortune ailleurs. En 1810, il est nommé professeur de Français au Lycée de Varsovie. Auparavant, il a épousé en 1806 une polonaise Justyna Krzyzanowska. Chopin aura trois soeurs nées en 1807, 1811, 1813. A l' âge de six ans, Frédéric commence à prendre des leçons de piano auprès d'un professeur tchèque Zywny, compositeur, violoniste de formation.
