Stephen Paul Motian, batteur et percussionniste américain de jazz, né le 25 mars 1931 à Philadelphie, Pennsylvanie et mort à New York le 22 novembre 2011. Issu d´une famille d´origine arménienne, Paul Motian grandit à Providence (Rhode Island). Enfant, son intérêt pour les western l'amène à prendre ses premières leçons de guitare. Dans sa famille non musicienne mais très mélomane, il se nourrit de variété américaine et de musiques traditionnelles arabe, arménienne et turque.
