Michael Herr est un journaliste, écrivain, scénariste américain, né en 1940 à Syracuse dans l'État de New York et mort le 23 juin 2016 à New York (État de New York). Par ses récits sur la Guerre du Viêt Nam en tant que reporter, Michael Herr inspira le film "Full Metal Jacket" (1987) de Stanley Kubrick et "Apocalypse Now" (1979) de Francis Ford Coppola. Michael Herr passe un an au Viêt Nam comme correspondant de guerre pour le magazine Esquire.
