Matti Makkonen (né le 16 avril 1952 et mort le 26 juin 2015) était un ingénieur finlandais travaillant dans le domaine des communications mobiles et considéré comme l'inventeur du SMS. Il a été employé entre autres par Nokia Networks et Tele Finland, ainsi que Finnet Oy. Makkonen a joué un rôle de premier plan dans la création de l'unité de communication mobile de ce qui est aujourd'hui TeliaSonera . En 2008, Makkonen reçoit le prix "The Economist Innovation Award" dans la catégorie de l'informatique et des télécommunications pour son travail sur la messagerie texte....
