Gary Gygax (27 juillet 1938 - 4 mars 2008) ou de son vrai nom Ernest Gary Gygax, était un écrivain américain et un concepteur de jeu dans le domaine du jeu de rôle. Il est surtout connu pour avoir coécrit avec Dave Arneson, et co-publié avec Don Kaye en 1973 sous licence Tactical Studies Rules (TSR Inc.), le premier et le plus célèbre jeu de rôle : Donjons et Dragons (abbrév. D&D, anglais : Dungeons & Dragons). Gary Gygax est souvent considéré comme le père du jeu de rôle moderne.
