Sir Ben Kingsley, de son vrai nom Krishna Bhanji, est un acteur britannique d'ascendance indienne, né le 31 décembre 1943 à Snainton dans le Yorkshire (Royaume-Uni).

Ben Kingsley est né en Angleterre, d'un père médecin, Rahimtulla Harji Bhanji, d'ascendance Gujarâtî mais né au Kenya (ses grands parents paternels s'étant préalablement installés à Zanzibar), tandis que sa mère Anna Lyna Mary (née Goodman), était une actrice et modèle anglaise.

Il s'intéresse très tôt au théâtre et devient pensionnaire de la Royal Shakespeare Company. Il joue entre autres Othello, Hamlet et The Merry Wives Penélope Cruz...
