Issu d'une famille de sportifs (son père était demi d'ouverture au RC Narbonne) Fabien Barthez pratique assez tôt le rugby et le football. Un de ses premiers entraîneurs, Aimé Goudoux, le replace au poste de gardien de but. Un excellent choix comme le prouvera la suite de la carrière de "Fabulous Fab". Il est considéré comme le meilleur gardien de but francais de tous les temps.

En 1986, il intègre le centre de préformation du TFC à Lespinet, sous la direction d'Elie Ba...
