Arthur Robert Ashe Jr est un joueur de tennis américain, né le 10 juillet 1943 à Richmond, Virginie (États-Unis) et mort le 6 février 1993 à New York, New York (États-Unis). Arthur Ashe débute sa carrière en 1960. Il remporte son premier tournoi amateur à Hackensack dans l'État du New Jersey, alors qu'il était à quelques jours de fêter son 18e anniversaire. Son palmarès chez les amateurs fut riche de 26 titres. Il obtient en 1963 une bourse de l'université de Californie à Los Angeles (UCLA).
