Licio Gelli, né le 21 avril 1919 à Pistoia en Toscane et mort le 15 décembre 2015 à Arezzo en Toscane, est un financier italien. Militant fasciste, il participe à la guerre civile espagnole parmi les volontaires fascistes qui soutiennent Francisco Franco. Après la guerre il travaille comme dirigeant d'entreprise. En novembre 1963, il rejoint une loge maçonnique dans laquelle il atteint rapidement le troisième degré (maître maçon). Il est encouragé par le Grand Maître du Grand Orient d'Italie Giordano Gamberini à former un cercle de gens importants dont certains pourraient devenir maçons ...
