Khizir Khayr ad-Dîn (turc : Barbaros Hızır Hayreddin Paşa) dit Barberousse, grand amiral de l'Empire ottoman, frère cadet d'Arudj Reïs, né en 1466 dans l'île de Lesbos à Mytilène, mort en 1546. Il fut avec Andrea Doria le plus grand marin de son temps. Yacoub Reïs, potier à Mételin, a quatre fils : Arudj, Elias, Ishac et Khizir. Les deux derniers sont potiers comme leur père, Arudj est marin. Il est capturé et esclave à Rhodes. Khizir rassemble une grosse somme d'argent pour racheter son frère.
