Gerard, baron Mortier, né à Gand (Belgique) le 25 novembre 1943, est un directeur d'opéra, de nationalité belge. Il meurt le 9 mars 2014 (à 70 ans) d'un cancer du pancréas. Gerard Mortier est fils d'un boulanger gantois. Il fait sa scolarité au collège jésuite de sa ville. Il acquiert sa formation supérieure à l'Université de Gand, où il obtient un doctorat en droit et une licence en sciences de la communication. Après ses études, Gerard Mortier, passionné d'art lyrique depuis son enfance, choisit une carrière de responsable artistique : son premier poste est celui d'assistant du directe...
