Elvis Aron Presley, est né le 8 janvier 1935, à Tupelo dans le Mississippi. En 1948, la famille Presley s'installe à Memphis. Elvis obtient son bac au collège Humes en 1953. Durant l'été, il enregistre un 45 tours: My Happiness et That's Wen Your Heartaches Begin au Memphis Recording Service (siège de Sun Records) pour offrir à sa mère. En juillet 1954, le propriétaire-producteur de Sun Records, Sam Phillips, présente Elvis à deux musiciens locaux, le guitariste Scotty Moore et le contrebassiste Bill Black.
