Il a commencé à jouer à l'âge de 5 ans à l'Étoile sportive fosséenne avant de poursuivre sa formation au FC Martigues. Lors de l'édition 2001-2002 de la Coupe Gambardella, il parvient à hisser la modeste équipe martégale en demi-finales, éliminée par l'OGC Nice.
