Xénophane, en grec ancien Ξενοφάνης, né vers 570 av. J.-C. à Colophon (Ionie) (Turquie actuelle), mort vers 475 av. J.-C., est un philosophe pré-socratique, poète et scientifique grec. Exilé de Colophon tombé sous la domination perse, il semble avoir émigré en Sicile et s'être réfugié d'abord à Zancle et à Catane, avant de se rendre à Élée dont il fonde probablement l'école éponyme. Les données attestées actuelles ne permettent pas de déterminer s'il mourut à Élée, ou s'il retourna finalement à Colophon. Il s’oppose fortement à l’anthropomorphism...
