Marie Jean Antoine Nicolas de Caritat, marquis de Condorcet, né le 17 septembre 1743 à Ribemont et mort le 29 mars 1794 à Bourg-la-Reine, est un philosophe, mathématicien et homme politique français, représentant des Lumières. Il est célèbre pour ses travaux pionniers sur la statistique et les probabilités, son analyse des différents modes de scrutin possibles et le « paradoxe de Condorcet » ainsi que par son action politique, tant avant la Révolution que sous celle-ci.
