Jean-François Vilar est un écrivain français, né à Paris le 14 mars 1947 et mort le 16 novembre 2014 Daniel Bensaïd. Il est l'auteur de romans noirs où il mêle des thèmes comme la ville secrète, la photographie, l'art et la littérature (notamment le surréalisme), l'histoire et les révolutions (1789, 1917, 1968). Après une enfance parisienne, il participe à mai 68. Militant trotskiste : après son service militaire, devient en 1972 responsable national des CDA (Comités de défense des appelés), coordonnés par un appareil clandestin de la LC - Ligue communiste, devenue LCR en septembre 1973 - puis journalist...
