Jean Balthazar Marie Mallard de La Varende Agis de Saint-Denis, baron Agis de Saint-Denis, « vicomte » de La Varende, connu sous le nom de Jean de La Varende, né le 24 mai 1887 au château de Bonneville à Chamblac (Eure) et mort le 8 juin 1959 à Paris, est un écrivain français. Auteur d'une vingtaine de romans, d'une dizaine de biographies, de diverses monographies sur la Normandie et de plus de deux cents nouvelles, La Varende s'est surtout attaché à l'évocation du terroir normand avec ses curés de campagne, ses paysans et ses hobereaux, tout en exprimant sa nostalgie de l'Ancien Régime et Léon Daudet...
