David Petraeus, né le 7 novembre 1952 à Cornwall-on-Hudson (en) dans le comté d'Orange (New York) est ancien général de l'armée américaine, commandant de la Force internationale d'assistance et de sécurité en Afghanistan (2010-2011) et directeur de la CIA (2011-2012).

David Petraeus s'engage dans l'US Army en 1974 après sa sortie de l'académie militaire de West Point où il a suivi une formation d'infanterie.

En 1991, alors qu'il est commandant de bataillon, il survit à une blessure par balle à la poitrine due à un tir ami d'une M249, et plus tard, il se fracasse le bassin lors d'un saut ...
