Al Pacino, de parents siciliens, a trois enfants. Julie, née en 1992 et des jumeaux, Anton et Olivia, nés le 25 janvier 2001 avec l'actrice Beverly D'Angelo.

Al Pacino vit avec sa mère chez ses grands-parents en Sicile. Ironie du sort, son grand-père James, est né à Corleone. Plus tard, il s'installe à New York, dans le South Bronx.

Il s'intéresse très tôt au théâtre et participe à des petites représentations pour son école. À 14 ans, il entre à la High School of Performing Arts...
