Stanley Donen est un réalisateur américain, né le 13 avril 1924 à Columbia, en Caroline du Sud (États-Unis).

Il commence à 10 ans une carrière de danseur en poursuivant ses études secondaires à Columbia. À 16 ans, après avoir achevé ses études à l'Université de Caroline du Sud, il débute à Broadway dans Pal Joey et se lie d'amitié avec Gene Kelly. Il joue dans Best Food Forwards: Gene Kelly en est la vedette et le chorégraphe. En 1942-43, il devient son collaborateur à Hollywood: leur originalité se trouve et dans les chorégraphies innovantes et dans des scénarios plus réalistes.
