Richard Hamilton est un peintre et graphiste anglais.Il est né à Londres en 1922. Il suit des cours à la Royal Academy School puis il fréquente de 1948 à 1951 la Slade school of art de Londres. Après avoir pratiqué la peinture abstraite, il revient à l'art figuratif dans les années 1950. Il fait partie du independant groupe de l'Institut d'art contemporain de Londres, dont les expositions, en particulier this is tomorrow (1956) marquent la fondation du pop art britannique.
