John WAYNE
John Wayne (de son vrai nom Marion Michael Morrison) est né le 26 mai 1907 à Winterset, Iowa (USA). Né de l'union de Mary Brown et Clyde Morrison, pharmacien. Ses parents partirent s'installer en Californie en 1916, tout près d'un village baptisé Hollywood . Comme on le devine, Marion ne pensait qu'à s'engager dans la Marine, mais il fallut bien déchanter et, ayant obtenu une bourse de l'université de Californie du sud, il se mît au service de l'équipe de football. Son premier contact avec le cinéma lui vint de Tom Mix, le célèbre cowboy de l'écran. Engagé comme accessoiriste à la Fox en 1926. Avec sa haute stature et sa morphologie baraquée, il attire l'attention de John Ford qui l'engage pour faire de la figuration dans plusieurs films dont "La maison du bourreau" et "Salute" en 1928.
Le jeune acteur apparait pour la première fois au générique sous le nom de Duke Morrison dans "Words and music" de James Tinling. Raoul Walsh l'engage pour son premier grand rôle dans "La piste des ...
