Biographie de : 

Alphonse Daudet est né à Nîmes le 13 mai 1840. Il entre en sixième au lycée Ampère, après avoir suivi les cours de l'institution Canivet à Nîmes. En 1856, son père, commerçant en soieries, se ruine. Alphonse doit renoncer à passer son baccalauréat et devient maître d'étude au collège d'Alès. Cette pénible expérience constituera la matière autobiographique de son premier vrai roman, Le Petit Chose (1868). Pour des raisons mal élucidées, Daudet rejoint son frère à Paris où il mène une vie de bohème. Il publie en 1858, un recueil de vers, les Amoureuses. En 1859, il fait la connaissance du poète Frédéric Mistral...
